Handling Post-Publication Issues

The Iranian Journal of Medical Microbiology (IJMM) is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. The Journal follows the COPE guidelines to handle errors, corrections, retractions, and other post-publication issues in a transparent and ethical manner.

1. Policy Overview:
The Iranian Journal of Medical Microbiology (IJMM) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity. All allegations of research or publication misconduct will be taken seriously and handled in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Misconduct includes, but is not limited to, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate authorship, duplicate publication, and undeclared conflicts of interest.

2. Reporting Misconduct:
Allegations of misconduct should be submitted in writing to the editorial office, providing all relevant evidence and details. Submissions can be made by readers, reviewers, authors, or institutions. All reports will be treated confidentially to protect the rights of all parties involved.

3. Investigation Process:

  1. The Editor-in-Chief (EiC) will conduct a preliminary assessment of the allegation to determine whether a formal investigation is warranted.

  2. The EiC may consult with the editorial board and, if necessary, the authors’ institutions to verify claims.

  3. Investigations are conducted impartially, objectively, and in a timely manner. The journal reserves the right to temporarily flag the article with an Expression of Concern while the investigation is ongoing.

4. Actions Upon Confirmation:
If misconduct is confirmed, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum): To correct minor errors that do not invalidate the results.

  • Retraction: For serious errors, falsification, fabrication, plagiarism, or unethical research practices. Retractions are linked to the original article with a clear explanation.

  • Notification: The authors’ institution(s) or relevant authorities may be notified.

  • Publication Ban: Authors found guilty of serious misconduct may be prohibited from submitting to the journal for a defined period.

5. Transparency and Fairness:
All parties involved are given an opportunity to respond to the allegation. The journal follows COPE’s flowcharts and best practice guidelines to ensure fairness, transparency, and consistency in handling misconduct cases.
