The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of seropositivity of anti-VZV IgG between acute stroke patients and control group. Materials and Methods: In this population-based cross-sectional study, 87 patients with acute ischemic stroke were selected as case group during 2014-2015,. Eighty-seven individuals without a history of stroke or other neurological disorders also were considered as control group based on their age and sex. VZV IgG was measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS V19- 16. Two groups were adjusted for socio-demographics and stroke risk factors. Results: The mean age of the stroke patients and control group were 71.33 years (± 10.95) and 67.69 years (± 11), respectively. The rate of seroprevalence of anti-VZV IgG was 95.5% in the stroke patients versus 96.3% in the control group. This difference was not statistically significant (p-value=0.5). Conclusions: the Current study does not provide any evidence of an association between the immune response to VZV as a marker of prior infection and acute ischemic stroke. %> http://ijmm.ir/article-1-457-en.pdf %P 55-62 %& 55 %!
