ایدز نوعی توصیف از اختلال عملکرد سیستم ایمنی است که در اثر عفونت ویروس HIV ایجاد می‌شود. HIV مسئول مرگ بیش از بیست و پنج میلیون نفر از زمان کشف جهانی است و سالانه بسیاری از افراد به ویروسHIV مبتلا می‌شوند. به دلیل پیچیدگی ساختاری ویروس و عدم وجود واکسن چشمگیرHIV، داروهای ضد ویروسی و اسیدهای نوکلئیک درمانی مانند siRNAبرای پیشگیری از HIV بررسی و ارزیابی شده‌اند. استفاده از درمان ضد ویروسی کیفیت و امید به زندگی را برای افراد آلوده به میزان قابل توجهی بهبود داده است، اما در کنار ظرفیت انطباق با ویروس، از موفقیت بیشتر جلوگیری کرده است. رویکردهای فناوری نانو تأثیر مثبتی در پیشگیری و درمان بسیاری از بیماری‌ها داشته است. نانوذرات و مواد مختلفی برای بهبود داروهای ضد ویروسی برای پیشگیری و درمان ایدز مورد بررسی قرار گرفته است که اثرات مثبتی در بهبود این بیماری داشته است. برخی از نانوذرات مورد بحث در این مقاله شامل لیپوزوم‌ها، دندریمرها، نانوذرات طلا، نانوذرات پلیمری، نانوالیاف‌ها، نانوذرات نقره، نانوکریستال‌های دارویی می‌باشد. در این مطالعه ساختار و خصوصیات هر یک از نانوذرات ذکر شده و عملکرد آنها در پیشگیری و درمان HIV  بررسی شده است. در این مقاله به بررسی رویکردهای فناوری نانو، استفاده از نانوذرات در درمان و پیشگیری از HIV پرداخته شد.
