زمینه وهدف: براساس سرشماری‌های صورت گرفته سرطان رحم و پستان شایع‌ترین نوع بیماری و عامل مرگ و میر درمیان زنان ایرانی به شمار می‌رود. مطالعات مختلف نشان داده است که پروبیوتیک‌ها نقـش مـؤثری در مقابله با سرطان دارند. هدف از مطالعه حاضر مطالعه تأثیر لاکتوباسیل برویس برآپوپتوز و بیان ژن‌های کاسپاز (casp۳, casp۸)  در سلول‌های سرطانی HeLa می‌باشد.
 مواد و روش‌ها: در این مطالعه باکتری لاکتوباسیل برویس از مایع واژینال خانم‌های مراجعه کننده به بیمارستان الزهرا جمع آوری شد و با کشت در محیط  MRS آگار جداسازی و تعیین هویت شدند. مهار تکثیر سلول‌های سرطانی HeLa توسط باکتری‌ها با استفاده از روش  MTT بررسی شد. همچنین با استفاده از روش DAPI آپوپتوز سلول‌های سرطانی با میکروسکوپ فلورسنت مورد سنجش قرار گرفت. در نهایت میزان بیان ژن‌های کاسپاز وژن AKT با استفاده از روش Real time PCR سنجیده شد.
یافته‌ها: نتایج بدست آمده حاکی از اثرمهاری لاکتوباسیلوس برویس برسلول‌های سرطانی HeLa بوده است و بیان ژن CASP۳ و CASP۸ در ساعت ۱۲، ۲۴ و ۳۶ پس از تیمار با عصاره کشته شده باکتری افزایش معنی‌داری پیدا نموده است.

نتیجه گیری: از باکتری‌های لاکتوباسیلوس برویس می‌توان جهت ایجاد یک راهکار نوین درمانی با تأثیر بالا، عوارض جانبی پایین، مصون از نظر بیولوژیکی دانست. از طرفی درمان جانبی و پیشگیری برعلیه سرطان مقرون به صرفه خواهد بود.
